Hello, my name is Jona Nightingale, a Jamaican-born, an openly queer trans writer, poet, mood reader, and so much more.
I have self-published several poetry collections including Screaming in the Forest and a short story collection, Family Dinner.
Part of the creative journey for me is experimenting with vulnerability and learning how to write a more compelling story by studying how other create their craft and trying myself.
How I Celebrate My Craft as Jona
This website is more of a conscious action to track my craft and share my stories.
I often post short stories like “Mission: Snow Fall” to test new ideas and practice believing in myself. Or poems that speak to me, even if they make me cry like “You Smell of Unknown Things“.
Where I started to create in my past
But before I was a writer that created queer characters, I was a poet, creating poems and recipes on Spice and Nice. You can still see the roots of who I was becoming on there.
Though that blog is dead now, I want to be honest about who I am, who I have always been, and who I want to become.
I also used to write on Medium, where I had a pension for think pieces and psychology.
